The ketubah signing usually happens in a quiet room shortly before the ceremony, while guests are still arriving. For many couples it is the calmest and most personal twenty minutes of the day.
Your officiant reads the text aloud, then your two witnesses sign. Depending on your tradition, you may sign as well. In many communities the signing flows straight into the bedeken, the veiling, which makes a private prelude to the ceremony itself.
The ketubah is then carried to the chuppah and read again in front of everyone. Afterwards most couples frame it and hang it at home — which is why it is worth choosing art you actually want to look at.
