This ketubah art features interwoven circular forms in serene shades of blue, gracefully encircling the sacred text at its center. The flowing symmetry of the design evokes the image of two lives intertwined, symbolizing unity, continuity, and the boundless nature of love. Each delicate motif and ornamental detail reflects harmony and balance, expressing the strength that comes from partnership and shared devotion.
A note on the Hebrew inscriptions:
Two classic verses from The Song of Songs are woven into this design.
אֲנִי לְדוֹדִי וְדוֹדִי לִי (Ani l’dodi v’dodi li) — translates literally to "I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine."
דּוֹדִי לִי וַאֲנִי לוֹ (Dodi li va’ani lo) — translates literally to "My beloved is mine, and I am his."
Because Hebrew is an inherently gendered language, we've rendered the English version of this in our art as "My beloved is mine and I am my beloved's" — staying true to the spirit of the verse, while using something that speaks to more couples equally. The Hebrew text for this phrase “דּוֹדִי לִי וַאֲנִי לוֹ”, which is classically stated in this exact way at many Jewish weddings in response to “אֲנִי לְדוֹדִי וְדוֹדִי לִי” remains unchanged.
Together, these words speak to mutual commitment and the sacred intention to build a home founded on love, faith, and enduring connection. The continuous circles create a sense of eternal embrace, embodying the promise of a life joined together in joy, meaning, and lasting unity.
